Subject: Tomato Festival Music Announced.
The Fairfield Downtown Association has announced the musical entertainment
for the eleventh annual Tomato Festival to be held on Saturday, August
10, 2002 from 10am until 8:30pm.
This yearıs festival will feature two stages with live musical entertainment
all day.
Performing on the Taylor Street and sponsored by Samıs Club and KUIC Radio
95.3 are:
11am until 12:30pm- Touch of Jazz- Jazz and Soul from the 60ıs and 70ıs
1pm until 2:30pm- Archie Lee Hooker, Jr- Traditional Delta Blues from
the nephew of the legendary Johnny Lee Hooker
4pm until 5:30 pm- Solid Ground- Old School Rhythm and Blues & Soul
Performing on the Jefferson Street stage sponsored by Gordonıs Music and
Sound are:
11am to 12:30pm- Silver Spur- Country/ Western
1pm until 2:30pm- Rickie P and Blue Monsoon- Modern Rocking Blues
3:00 until 4:30pm- Kafe Rico- Rhythm and Blues with a Latin Flavor
Topping off the day of fun will be Julio Bravo Y Su Orquesta Salsabor,
the East Bayıs premier Salsa Band with a free concert from 6pm until 8:30
pm. Joining Julio Bravo will be the Del Campo Dance Troupe from Sacramento.
In addition to terrific music all day, the Eleventh Annual Tomato Festival
will feature pounds and pounds of some fifty varieties of heirloom tomatoes
grown by Tenbrink Farms in Suisun Valley. There will be tomato ice cream
from Leatherbyıs Family Creamery, exclusive Tomato Basil Bread from the
Country Baker and Fried Green Tomatoes from MoıCheleıs Soul Food Restaurant
in Suisun City. Weıll have gourmet tomato products from Trader Joeıs and
other regional companies to taste and purchase, free childrenıs activities,
the Attack of the Killer Tomatoes Film Festival sponsored by Pepper Bellyıs
Variety and Comedy Club, tomato contests and more! Commercial rides from
jumpy tents to Water Balloon Wars will be available for children of all
ages, and there will be performances by Danc-Sing Stars Studio and demonstrations
by Brantleyıs Taekwondo Studio.
The annual Tomato Cooking Contest will be held in the kitchen at Community
United Methodist Church. Local home and professional cooks will compete
for cash awards in four categories- salsa, appetizer, main dish and salad.
The kitchen will be available for thirty-minute shifts from 7:30am, with
judging at 1:30pm and awards on the Taylor Street stage at 3pm.
Fairfield Aquatic Club will host a beer and wine garden in the Courtyard
at Fairfield Center for Creative Arts. The $12 ticket will buy a souvenir
wine or beer glass with two fills and an assortment of snacks. The Fairfield
Host Lions Club will team with the Fairfield Downtown Association to sell
Budweiser products, and the Armijo High School Band Boosters will offer
Coca Cola products to raise funds for the high school band.
Free shuttle bus service will be provided by the Fairfield Transportation
Authority. Shuttles will run every ten minutes between the Armijo High
School parking lot at 824 Washington Street, the Fairfield Community Center
at 1000 Kentucky Street and festival central. Shuttle service will begin
at 9:45am and end at 5:15pm.
Corporate sponsors for the Eleventh Annual Tomato Festival are the Fairfield
Downtown Association, the City of Fairfield, Samıs Club, KUIC radio 95.3fm,
Leatherbyıs Family Creamery, Tenbrink Farms, Pepper Bellyıs, Solano Garbage,
TV Chismes, Atlas Seeds and Coca Cola.
