Jim Forbes has served as lead counsel for both plaintiffs and defendants in cases worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Forbes has an enviable record of successfully resolving complex and contentious issues before trial through negotiations or dispositive motions, saving his clients untold expense and worry.
Jim has represented banks against fraud allegations, a Fortune 15 computer manufacturer in a toxic tort action, insurers and insureds in complex insurance coverage matters, a major league baseball player in a contract dispute, and diverse other clients in a wide variety of matters.
In addition to his extensive experience with business and other torts, contract disputes and insurance coverage issues, Jim's experience includes the Federal Freedom of Information Act and California Records Act litigation, as well as California Death Row habeas corpus proceedings in Federal District Court, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the California Supreme Court.
After graduating from Harvard Law School, Jim won a Rotary Fellowship in Public Policy Studies at the University of Kent in Canterbury, England. He traveled extensively in Europe, Israel and Egypt. While there, he coached the women’s basketball team to the national university final tournament. After returning to the U.S., he studied film production at the University of Southern California.
