My biggest freelance client Bernard Schank Advertising hired me full-time in their office (no longer there) in downtown Mt. View January 1983. Actually was a beautiful commute along I-280, past Crystal Springs Reservoir in my little sporty Datsun 240Z.

I actually was lucky enough to shake his hand and talk briefly to him back in 1983. I worked at California Academy of Sciences and we created an exhibit of his photographs. He showed up to view it before the opening. One of the staff said he was there so one by one we snuck in to meet him. I don't remember what I or he said - I was too awestruck!

I'm glad you posted his b-day - I wouldn't have remembered. When I met him he had become quite "rotund" and had massive hands - was very cheerful. One of my faves of his is "moon over desert". Your Yosemite book must be a treat!
