Creedence Clearwater Revival Class of 1963 El Cerrito High School Hand-Signed "Cosmo's Factory" by John Fogerty, Tom Fogerty, Stu Cook & Doug "Cosmo" Clifford (who signs "Cosmo") - Value $350. The name of the album comes from the warehouse in Berkeley where the band rehearsed. Bandleader John Fogerty was so insistent on practicing nearly every day that drummer Doug "Cosmo" Clifford began referring to the place as "The Factory." Really Cool Album as "Cosmo's Factory" has Doug's Signature as "Cosmo" on the album - Listed as one of Rolling Stone Magazine's Top Albums of All Time - Released in 1970 CCR History The band started out as The Blue Velvets, formed by John Fogerty, Doug Clifford, and Stu Cook in El Cerrito, California in the late 1950s. They were an instrumental trio, however in 1959 they began backing Tom Fogerty, John's older brother, for school dances at El Cerrito High School, on fraternity house gigs and in the recording studio. Creedence Clearwater Revival was somewhat unfashionable during the time they were active, because they concentrated on tightly-focused, well-crafted singles rather than long, loose album cuts. However within a few years of their breakup their legacy became secure as one of the great American rock bands, and they heavily influenced the entire genre of heartland rock. Fogerty's songs are considered classics of the rock form and have been covered by countless artists; "Fortunate Son" in particular is revived whenever America goes to war (because its lyrics are clearly anti-war). A new live version of "Fortunate Son" by John Fogerty was recently released as part of his 2005 compilation album The Long Road Home which combines both his Creedence and solo hits. In November of 1983, John Fogerty, Doug Clifford and Stu Cook is invited to the 20th Reunion of the Class 63 of "El Cerrito High School" in Concord Inn in El Cerrito (CA) and they make several songs of CCR and covers of old blue. They also played some songs of the time of THE BLUE VELVETS that is in fact when they were students of that school. Some of those songs were: "Hully Gully" and "Annie Had to Baby." A raw video from the event: www.youtube.com/watch?v= 1WySaetpQOQ My fave CCR song "Born On The Bayou" with lyrics. www.youtube.com/watch?v= wIjUY3pjN8E CCR has been in my blood "since I was a little boy" - I'm a fellow Gaucho (El Cerrito High) class of 1974, 11 years after you guys. I feel lucky that the music I love just happens to be from the same "swamp" I grew up in. Good work on the PSA Cosmo and hope to see you in concert soon. 041610 on their Facebook page A big influence on John Fogerty was early southern blues to include Robert Johnson, a fave of mine also. He died in the same way my sister, Susan died - Strychnine poisoning. Fogerty traveled to Mississippi in 1990 for inspiration and visited the gravesite of blues legend Robert Johnson. He realized that Robert Johnson was the true spiritual owner of the songs Johnson had written. Fogerty decided to start making a new album and to perform his old Creedence material regularly in concert.[5][6] It was at this time visiting the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church cemetery that Fogerty met Skip Henderson, a New Jersey vintage guitar dealer who had formed a nonprofit corporation The Mt. Zion Memorial Fund to honor Johnson with a memorial marker. Fogerty subsequently funded headstones for Charlie Patton, James Son Thomas, Mississippi Joe Callicott, Eugene Powell, Lonnie Pitchford and helped with financial arrangements for numerous others.[7] Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church founded in 1909, in the "Shellmound" area on the eastern edge of Morgan City, is the site of a large memorial marker (cenotaph) to blues legend Robert Johnson which was placed by the Mt. Zion Memorial Fund through a major grant from Columbia Records and a number of smaller grants from organizations and individuals across the U.S. The site now appears on numerous tour itineraries and is promoted by Leflore County. Robert Johnson quote: "The blues is a low-down, aching chill; If you ain't never had 'em, I hope you never will." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Morgan_City,_Mississippi http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Mt._Zion_Memorial_Fund John Fogerty www.johnfogerty.com/ www.facebook.com/ johnfogerty?v=wall Stu Cook, Doug "Cosmo" Clifford www.creedence-revisited.com/ |
