On April 9, 2005, from 10am to 3pm, the Solano County Government Center will celebrate its Grand Opening with a community celebration titled, The People for the Place.
Following its dedication in December 2004, the County Government Center has been a flurry of activity as departments transferred their operations from leased space throughout Fairfield into the new facility. With the moves complete, the County is ready to offer the general public a look at the new center for Solano County government.
At 11:00am, County Supervisors and other dignitaries will welcome the community to the new building, and will present the community with a County Time Capsule to commemorate completion of the award- winning facility. Following the presentation, staff will offer fifteen-minute guided tours every half hour.
Three commissioned artists have installed works of art in the lobby of the Government Center. Presentations about the various pieces will be made in the Board of Supervisors Chambers in the afternoon.
To further celebrate the opening of the Government Center in downtown, Fairfield Downtown Association merchants will welcome County employees and their guests with a sidewalk sale and open house. Street performers, balloon artists and face painters will bring their art to downtown. A food court at the Community Plaza will enhance the specials offered at downtown eateries, and live musical entertainment will be offered on the stage. The Hipwaders, Dana Smith and his Performing Dog Lacey and special musical guests will perform throughout the day.
The Project
The proposed "Project" is a new County of Solano government
administrative center to be known as the Solano County Government Center.
The Project has been authorized by the Solano County Board of Supervisors
and is proposed to be constructed for occupancy that is scheduled to occur
by December 2004. It includes a new County Administration Center office
building containing approximately 300,000 square feet of floor space,
along with a Public Plaza and a new parking structure to accommodate approximately
1,000 parking spaces. The Project also proposes a Probation Department
building of approximately 40,000 square feet along with two support buildings.
The proposed new government center will consolidate Solano County operations
currently housed in numerous locations throughout the City of Fairfield,
City of Suisun and outlining County areas. Some satellite offices and
departments will remain in operation.
