Tomato Festival earns group state award
FAIRFIELD σ According to one statewide group, the Fairfield Downtown Association
is the big tomato when it comes to putting on a festival.
The California Downtown Association recently awarded the Fairfield group its
Crystal Eagle Achievement Award for the annual Tomato Festival.
In awarding the honor Oct. 3, the award committee chairman, Craig Smith, praised
the Fairfield group for sticking with the 17-year-old festival despite numerous
challenges, including one year with no tomatoes for the tomato festival.
About 50,000 people attended the 2008 Fairfield Tomato Festival, which expanded
from one to two days this year, a press release stated. From
Daily Republic article 10/19/08.
