Subject:
Candy Festival and Fall Craft Faire
The Fairfield Downtown Association and the City of Fairfield will present
its first annual Candy Festival and Fall Craft Faire on Saturday, October
6, 2001.
The family event will celebrate Fairfieldıs growing role as the ³Candy
Capital of Northern California.² We will focus on childrenıs activities
and entertainment, and provide opportunities for parents and children
to play together.
Candy making, tasting and sales will make up an important part of our
festival. Candy and ice cream manufacturers will bring in samples for
tasting and products for purchase. There will be ³how to² lessons put
on by candy-making experts and cooking contests for candy, baked goods
and ice cream. There will also be cake and cookie decorating contests,
and weıll have a candy costume contest.
Downtown merchants will be invited to decorate their storefronts, and
prizes will be awarded in three categories: Most Creative, Most Nostalgic,
and Most Related to Theme.
There will also be great opportunities for families to enjoy a root beer
float or a custom made sundae at our Olde Fashioned Ice Cream Social to
be held at Fairfield Center for Creative Arts.
Children of all ages will enjoy a free screening of the popular movies,
³Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory,² and ³Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.²
There will be free family arts and crafts activities as well as commercial
vendors with a climbing wall, an inflatable slide and a train.
Clowns, jugglers and mimes will wander the festival to entertain and amaze
the crowd, and a stage with day-long free musical entertainment featuring
barbershop quartets, ragtime bands and big band era music will be erected
on Texas St in front of Fairfield Center for Creative Arts.
Food vendors will feature an array of candy-themed goods, including fudge
and saltwater taffy, root beer floats and smoothies. Craft vendors will
feature classic handcrafted treasures.
The festival is in the early planning stages now, so the involvement of
the community is invited. Sponsorship opportunities
are available for local businesses, and there may be a fundraising
opportunity for a local non-profit group.
