10am - 3pm
Parade, Concert
& BBQ
This parade will begin at 10:00am with a bbq and concert to follow at
the County Annex lawn. The parade route begins at the intersection of
Webster and Kentucky Streets. It marches west on Kentucky St. to Taylor
St. where it turns south. At Texas Street the parade moves east to Washington
Street, where it disbands at Kentucky Street. The Reviewing Stand
will be placed on Texas Street at Madison Street, near Fairfield
Center for Creative Arts. Channel 26 will broadcast the parade live
for those folks who are unable to make it downtown for the festivities.
From 11:00 am until 2:00, the Jimmy Doolittle Air and Space Museum
at Travis Air Force Base will sponsor a barbeque on the Solano County
Government Center Plaza (Jefferson & Texas Streets). $5 will buy a choice of
hot dog or hamburger, chips, soda or water and dessert. All proceeds
go toward building the museum at Travis. From 11am until 2pm, the
local band Deja vu will entertain the crowd with a FREE concert of
salsa, rhythm and blues and Motown favorites with a Latin flavor.
The theme for this year's parade is, "AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL-
Land of Opportunity." Cash awards, trophies and ribbons will be presented
in 32 categories and for special sweepstakes awards, Best Use of
Red, White & Blue, Best Use of Theme and Grand Sweepstakes. Every
entry will receive a certificate of participation. The Fairfield
City Council will present the awards at a regular meeting following
the parade.
The entry fee for the parade is $35, and businesses,
service clubs and schools, especially musical entries, are all encouraged
to enter. Floats, decorated vehicles and mounted units are very popular
with spectators. Entry forms are available for download from the
Fairfield Downtown Association website- www.fairfielddowntown.com,
or by calling the Fairfield Downtown Association office at 707-422-0103.
The Parade committee is proud to announce that retired Fairfield
Police Officer Ed Gebing will be the Grand Marshals for the Independence
Day Parade. Ed retired earlier this year after a distinguished thirty-
year career in law enforcement. Ed has been instrumental in educating
Fairfield's young people on traffic safety and has obtained many,
many dollars in grant money to help with the safety education in
the Fairfield- Suisun Unified School District.
Sponsorships from
the community are invited to offset the cost of the trophies, ribbons
and cash awards. Donations of any amount will significantly help
the FDA to cover the expense of the awards. Businesses or individuals
can sponsor one of the Sweepstakes Awards and the business name will
be featured on the trophy itself and the sponsor of that award.
