2003 Holiday of Lights
Downtown Fairfield
The Fairfield Downtown Association will host its annual Christmas
Tree Lighting and the arrival of Santa Claus on Friday,
December 5, 2003, from 6:00 to 8:30pm. Festivities will take place
in a variety of locations on Texas Street downtown, between Jefferson
Street and Pennsylvania Avenue.
Our 40- foot Community Christmas Tree will stand at the corner
of Madison Street and Texas Street. The tree is being delivered
by Mr. John Carlton on December 2nd, and will be decorated by
Fairfield Downtown Association members with help from Fairfield
Public Works crews.
Santa Claus will arrive on a Fairfield Fire Truck, and light the
Christmas tree with help from the Sullivan Middle School Band. Then
he€ll hop back on the fire engine to lead the Light Parade to
Barb€s Deli where he will take gift requests from children until
8:30pm. Local Boy Scouts will offer photos with Santa for $2 each. Photos
will be free with a donation of a non-perishable food item.
Buzzard€s Roost Ranch will offer carriage rides with a donation
of a perishable food item. The carriage stop will be located at
the south side of the Texas Street/ Madison Street intersection,
across the street from the Christmas tree and stage.
Collectible lapel pins and sweatshirts featuring the fanciful
Holiday Night of Lights logo are available at the Fairfield Downtown
Association office. Shirts are available in children€s sizes at
$12 and adult sizes at $15. They are heavy weight shirts very
generous in size. Lapel pins are $3. All the logo merchandise
is available now by calling 422-0103 or at the FDA office- 1000
Texas Street across the parking lot from Pietro€s.
Bring the family to Downtown Fairfield and visit one of our fine
restaurants for dinner or a hot beverage. Enjoy hot cocoa and
treats served by stores while they showcase their holiday merchandise
and décor. Downtown retailers invite guests to browse in their
stores while the children visit with Santa, make holiday decorations
or decorate cookies. Holiday open house specials will let shoppers
of all ages get a jump on the gift- buying season.
Families looking for a convenient dining option before the festivities
will enjoy the new Kid's Menu at Fusilli Ristorante (620 Jackson
Street), which debuts Dec. 5 in honor of downtown's holiday events.
All entrees will be affordably priced at $4.95 and include coloring
pages and crayons! Kids can choose from Macaroni & Cheese, two
Personal Pizzas, and fun-shaped pastas with Meat Sauce, Alfredo,
or Butter & Parmesan. As a special treat, kids also will receive
a complimentary sundae--Fusilli-style!--with their dinner that
night.
Pepper Belly€s will present nationally known comic Ralph Harris.
Harris is one of the most in-demand national comedy headliners
today. He€s had his own HBO special and has had several appearances
on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Late Night with Conan O€Brien.
He is often described as, €the next Bill Cosby,€ because he is
so influenced by Cosby€s clean style of comedy. The show begins
at 8pm, so revelers eighteen and over can enjoy Holiday Night
of Lights and stay downtown for the show. Tickets are $15 with
a two-beverage minimum and can be purchased in advance or at the
door.
Entries for our third annual Holiday Light Parade are invited. Entries
should be decorated in a holiday theme, and be at least 50% covered
in lights. There is NO entry fee. Cash prizes will be awarded
for the three best floats as judged by the Fairfield City Council. Watch
for entry forms in the Daily Republic on November 28th and 30th,
or call the Fairfield Downtown Association office.
Local non-profit groups are cheerfully invited to participate
as volunteers for the event. This is a terrific way for your student
to earn those Community Service hours.
The event will affect traffic in downtown. Madison Street mid-block
between Empire Street and Missouri Street mid-block will be closed
on December 2nd for the arrival and set-up of the Christmas tree. On
Friday, December 5th, Madison Street will be closed again for
the set up of the stage. Texas Street between Taylor Street and
Jackson Street will be closed at 3:00pm, with signs posted to
direct drivers around the closure to the restaurants and shops. Texas
Street between Pennsylvania Avenue and Jefferson Street will be
closed from 5:30 to 8:30pm. Webster Street will remain open through
the event for bus service. All of the restaurants and many of
the shops will remain open for the event.
Corporate sponsors for this year€s event include the Fairfield
Redevelopment Agency, the City of Fairfield, the Daily Republic
and Solano Garbage. Call the Fairfield Downtown Association at
422-0103 for more information or visit the website www.fairfielddowntown.com.
