What Is The Midnight Sun? It's a phenomenon where the sun never quite sets! It occurs near and above the artic circle for over 1/2 of the year. See the calendar photo to the left column. Even Alaskans are known to travel northward just to see the spectable where the sun is visible for 24 hours. On the South Pole the opposite is happening - they're in 24 hour darkeness or "Polar Night". This is all due to the 23.5 degree tilt of the earth and how it faces the sun differently throughout the year. Explanations: • Wikipedia • weathernotebook.org The opposite of the Midnight Sun is the Polar Night - where the sun never rises! • Wikipedia |
